World Ocean Day at Mushroom Reef Sanctuary

We joined a playgroup organized by Eco Explorer at Mushroom Reef Sanctuary in Mornington Peninsula last month. This playgroup was themed around The World Ocean Day to raise awareness of ocean preservation.

We always try our best to have as much outdoor time as possible as The Viking Boy just loves it! I can’t emphasize enough the importance of being outdoors for both children and adults. Events like this are just perfect! For the parents and kids to have quality bonding time in nature while learning about sustainability.

We set off pretty early in the morning on the day, as the event was set to start at 10 am. We followed a scenic route along the ocean which was really pleasant. 🙂

Look at The Viking Boy listening to his own music like a grown-up teenager!

Having fun with the “mud kitchen”.

At the start of the event, we learned about ocean preservation and sea lives. We were then given a list for our Scavenger Hunt. Do you recognize any of these sea lives?

“Kelp Tug of War”. The children had so much fun! This must be the most creative Tug of War I have ever seen. 🙂

The father and son duo exploring, looking for “treasure” in our scavenger hunt.

We stayed at Mushroom Reef Sanctuary to explore more after the playgroup ended. We tried walking all the way out on the Mushroom Reef but had to turn back as the tide was getting higher. We were drenched with sea water soaking our gumboots. What happened to the low tide as published on the internet!?

We stopped by Flinder’s little town to have our very very late lunch. Its such a beautiful small town with a couple of cafes/ restaurants and boutique shops. We chose to have our lunch at Cook and Norman Trattoria and the food was so yummy! I had their “Linguine alle vongole, mussels, clams, prawns, chilli, garlic & parsley”.

The Viking Pappa had The Sher Wagyu Rump (marble score 8).

We had tonnes of fun despite the chilly weather. We wanted to visit other places in The Mornington Peninsula but ended up not having enough time. It was a great day trip and we will definitely return to explore the area again!
